A Dream Barndominium in the Alberta Rockies

In the quiet, forested Alberta Rockies, a family dreamed of a home that combined comfort, functionality, and flexibility— a space that could grow with their lifestyle and blend seamlessly into the surroundings. “We liked the concept of a barndominium and started looking at a company in Ontario, but someone recommended Integrity — and I’m glad they did,” Wayne shared.

A barndominium, often called a “Barndo”, is a modern home that combines the rustic charm of a barn with the comfort and style of contemporary, post-frame living. Integrity’s Barndominium model offers over 2,500 sq ft of open layouts and high ceilings, with a 30’ x 50’ attached garage or workspace. However, customers can customize size and floor plans to meet their individual needs.

Wayne and his family wanted a home that was practical for everyday life, flexible enough for their family, and something built to last. “Integrity not only provided expert design, drawing and permit support, but also meticulously tailored the building and drawing package to meet all the standards,” Wayne noted. He appreciated their proactive approach to ensuring everything was in order before construction began.

Like all Integrity builds, this project was built to lock-up – meaning the full structural shell, including exterior framing, siding, roofing, the second floor, and windows and doors are completed, leaving the interior for the customer and their selected trade partners to complete. Through this process, the family was impressed by Integrity’s efficiency and professionalism. “This was our first build, and honestly, it’s the only one we’ll ever need,” remarked Wayne. Despite the typical challenges of construction projects, Integrity’s crew impressed Wayne with their punctuality and dedication. “The crew was always on time, respectful, hardworking, and easy to get along with. A great group of young guys — you could tell they enjoyed the work they were doing,” he added.

The family was particularly impressed with Integrity’s attention to detail. “They self-performed a thorough inspection of their work and caught a few small details that needed fixing. They could’ve easily left them, but that kind of follow-through says a lot about their integrity as a company,” says Wayne.

All decisions, even the minor ones, were meaningful to the family and well-supported by Integrity. “We ended up letting the family vote on the exterior colour, and selected green to blend perfectly with the forest. It feels like it belongs in the landscape.” It was the patience and meticulous execution that made the experience with Integrity Post Structures truly exceptional. 

Reflecting on their completed barndominium, the family couldn’t be happier with their new home or the process. “I am proud to say Integrity built our barndo and I’ve recommended them to others. They have been quick to respond to any issues. It’s been a great experience from start to finish.”
