Career Growth and Evolution at Integrity

Integrity has built its brand on an ability to provide industry-leading products and services in post-frame construction and residential framing material supply in Western Canada. The group of companies is also a leading employer with a focus on teamwork and a positive work environment. At Integrity, individuals can thrive and have long-lasting, satisfying careers.

“We wanted to build a company where employees would feel like they are really part of a team, where they feel like they are part of something exciting,” explains Jerry Myer, founder and CEO of Integrity. “We want our employees to see a long, healthy career path at Integrity, and we want to support their growth.”

Brady Wilk, Supply Chain Manager at Integrity, explains that it has been an easy choice to stay at Integrity over the years. “I work with great people, my career goals have been supported and my growth has been encouraged.”

Brady started with Integrity in 2015 as a part-time delivery truck driver while he went to school. “It got a little crazy at times,” explains Brady. “I would go to SAIT from 8 am to noon, then work at Integrity, then do it all over again the next day.”

While delivering framing materials helped pay the bills, Brady’s goal was to graduate from SAIT’s Supply Chain Management program and get a job in logistics. “Because of my driving experience, I figured logistics was a good fit. But what I really wanted to get into was purchasing.”

Brady reached out to Scott Myer, COO of Integrity Group, to inquire about a full-time position after graduation. “I worked closely with Brady and knew he was a hard worker and smart. We didn’t have a position available right then, but I recognized he was someone we wanted to retain,” says Scott.

“Innovation is a core value of Integrity and we are going to keep pushing the limits and that’s something I want to be a part of for a long time.”

In January 2017 Brady started the next leg of his career as Integrity’s Purchaser and proved he had a passion for developing and optimizing systems and processes. “Brady very quickly became a valuable asset to our team,” says Scott. “With his contributions, we were able to improve our buying power, reduce inventory carrying costs and leverage greater opportunities. The work he was doing was integral to our success, and as we grew, Brady’s role grew with us.”

In 2019 Brady was promoted to Purchasing Manager, a role that had a significant impact on Integrity’s business during COVID. “In the midst of COVID, lumber prices were crazy. Prices fluctuated wildly and hit all-time highs. It was a challenging time to be a supplier and I was proud to contribute in helping Integrity navigate the volatility,” says Brady. As demand for Integrity Building Products continued to climb, Brady’s team and his role also grew. In 2021 Brady became the Supply Chain Manager, with additional responsibilities for inventory control and inbound logistics.

“I am excited to see my career continue to grow with Integrity,” explains Brady. “There is still so much to do. Innovation is a core value of Integrity and we are going to keep pushing the limits and that’s something I want to be a part of for a long time.”

Commitment to our Team Members

Maria Volansky is a Junior Accountant with Integrity, but that’s not where she started when she joined the team over thirteen years ago. “My education is in Early Childhood because I had a passion for working with children,” explains Maria. “I never could have imagined myself in accounting.”

Joining Integrity in 2010, Maria’s goal was to make some extra money before returning to teaching in the fall. “Integrity was a new and growing company, and they needed people to help pitch in wherever they could,” explains Maria. “I knew Integrity was a great place to work because my sister Bre was already employed with Integrity and had good things to say about the team.”

That summer Maria became a helpful hand doing everything from hotshot deliveries to building posts and post-frame construction. She also took on the task of pouring and assembling the Perma-Column® concrete posts.

“I felt like a mad scientist,” laughs Maria. “I gained a whole new appreciation for Bill Nye the Science guy with my clipboard of formulas, wearing my coveralls, mask, goggles, and gloves. It was a bit of a surreal experience.”

The team supported my growth, they gave me opportunities to advance, and to my own surprise, accounting became my career.”

When asked what she loves most about working at Integrity Maria responds that the Integrity team has always supported her. “I love my place at Integrity and take great pride in my story here. You couldn’t ask for better owners and colleagues. Integrity has given me so many opportunities, some of which I never thought I was capable of doing. I appreciate that they believe in me.”

Innovation Drives Career Growth

Mike Boon started working at Integrity in 2011 doing a little bit of everything including picking lumber, forklift operator and hotshot driver. Eventually, he transitioned into logistics – scheduling and dispatching trucks, procurement and purchasing. “I think I have done almost everything,” laughs Mike. “In the early days, we all just helped out wherever it was needed.”

As Integrity Building Products grew and began supplying framing materials to Calgary and area home builders, there was a need for a more specialized role in procurement and logistics. Mike’s experience on the post-frame side of the business made him the perfect candidate to lead logistics for Integrity Building Products, so Mike transitioned into an estimating role performing material take-offs.

Mike Boon Design & Estimating Manager at Integrity Building Products“Working at Integrity has always been exciting. We are constantly changing, and thinking outside of the box,” explains Mike. “A big advancement was when we started looking at how technology, such as MiTek software, could help provide Integrity and in turn, our customers, a competitive advantage.”

“In 2015 Integrity Building Products really started to gain traction and it was once again time to expand,” explains Scott. “We began to hire a team of estimators and designers and Mike was the natural choice to lead that team.”

Today Integrity Building Products’ design and estimating team is a robust team that includes members specializing in engineering, architectural technology, drafting and project management. “We built a team with strong expertise in home design, a team that can build a partnership with home builders,” says Mike.

“I’ve felt supported by the leadership team at Integrity throughout my career,” explains Mike. “We are always feeding each other ideas, and working together on strategy and direction. The best part of working at Integrity is our collaboration and our trust in each other’s expertise and management. I am a big thinker, and at Integrity, there is always room for discussion and big ideas.”

A Future at Integrity

Integrity has proven to be more than just an employer; it is a place where employees can make a job into a career, and where both personal and professional growth and goals are supported. At Integrity, individuals can thrive and have long-lasting, satisfying careers.

“The sky’s the limit,” says Mike when asked what is next at Integrity. “There are no boundaries. Integrity is committed to innovating and it’s so motivating to see our individual contributions be appreciated and make a difference.”

Maria adds “I like where I am but I’ve learned that you just never know what’s next. I may be an accountant forever, or there may be yet another opportunity at Integrity to try something new.”

“Integrity is never done building or innovating,” says Brady. “There is a commitment to continuous improvement. Integrity is a company where I can use my education and my skills to really make a difference.”
